From Death to Life
Have you ever wondered why God allows suffering? While suffering can seem unbearable and unnecessary while in it, we often emerge from trials stronger, with a deeper faith and closeness to God.
In today’s story, Pastor Billy Heather recounts his experience of facing imminent death due to stage four testicular cancer at age 21 and how it changed his perspective on life.
Words of Hope:
“Look at everything as though you are seeing it either for the first or last time, then your time on earth will be filled with glory.”
― Betty Smith
LIFE
In part 1 of the 3-part series of Relentless Hope, Pastor Billy Heather shares how he faced a death sentence at age 21 when he was diagnosed with stage four testicular cancer. However, the near-death experience and beating cancer changed his perspective on what matters in life. He says it’s not about what God saves us from that matters…it’s what He saves us for.
LEADERSHIP
In part 2 of our 3-part series, Pastor Billy Heather teaches us that true leadership is not only what we say but, more importantly, what we do. He encourages us to keep our focus on Jesus to understand the values that create effective leadership. Pastor Billy implores us to lead from a place of love, understanding, and caring for others—this inspires others to follow. It is through exhibiting Jesus’ love within our lives and creating an environment where others can experience it that will bring others closer to Him.
LEGACY
In part 3 of Relentless Hope, Pastor Billy Heather emphasizes that any successes he’s had in life are because of his passionate love for Jesus. He wants people to know how loved and valued they are, rediscover their purpose, and live it out. Pastor Billy also challenges us to see people differently—people make problems, but people are not problems. He reminds us that we all have value and worth no matter who we are or where we come from.
Scripture to reflect on:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
– Jeremiah 29:11
Closing prayer for Billy’s story:
Dear Lord, I know You are preparing me for something greater when things aren’t as I expect them to be. I trust Your divine and perfect plan for my life. Please help me release any expectations and selfish desires so I may fulfill my purpose. Fill my heart with Your divine light so I may be at peace. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
