DAILY VITAMIN
God can handle the sentence you are afraid to say.
There is one thing you have not brought to God. You pray around it. You pray near it. You have gotten very skilled at almost.
Name the one thing out loud today.
Use plain words with no polish on them.
Do not add a defense at the end.
INSPIRATIONAL STORY
Say the Thing You Have Been Avoiding
You know exactly which prayer this is. You have been circling it for a while now. You pray for your kids. You pray about work. You pray the safe, sturdy, presentable prayers. But there is one sentence sitting in the back of your throat that you will not say.
Maybe it is the thing you did, or the thing you keep doing and can’t stop.
Maybe it is the thing you want and are ashamed to want.
Maybe it is anger at God that you believe you are not allowed to have.
There are these lingering, nagging, pervasive thoughts that go unsaid to God. But guess what… He knows those thoughts anyways… So why hide them?
The part of you that stays hidden stays sick. You cannot get healing on a wound you will not show anybody, including Him.
David wrote Psalm 51 after adultery and a staged murder.
It is not a tidy prayer.
He does not manage his image. He does not explain the circumstances.
He says: against you, you only, have I sinned.
And the line he lands on is the strangest one in the psalm. “A broken and contrite heart, God, you will not despise.”
If you’re broken, come broken. If you’re scared, come scared. If you’re ashamed, come ashamed. Bring the real you to the real Jesus.
Here’s your focus for today:
Name It: Say the one thing out loud to God today, in plain words.
Refuse the Polish: Do not dress it up or explain the circumstances that led to it.
Skip the Defense: End the prayer without a single word of self-justification.
Anchor your day in this truth: “My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” (Psalm 51:17)
He is not going to flinch.
He has heard worse and stayed.
Say it.
