A New Definition for Being Blessed
What does blessing mean to you? Success, financial or physical health, a good job? In today’s story, Kate Merrick shares the dark, vulnerable parts of her life and how God’s faithfulness allowed her to overcome extreme tribulations. Let’s dive in.
Words of Hope
“May we be strengthened with the understanding that being blessed does not mean that we shall always be spared all the disappointments and difficulties of life.”
― Heber J. Grant
LIFE
In part 1 of the 3-part Relentless Hope series, Kate’s understanding of God’s faithfulness increases profoundly while seeking a cure for her daughter’s cancer. She shares that she thought being blessed looked like “the American dream,” but during tragedy, Kate realized that God has a different definition of blessing. Along her journey, Kate found comfort in learning from the women of the Bible.
LEADERSHIP
In part 2 of our 3-part series, Kate teaches us that authentic leadership comes from selfless service and acts of love. She also expresses the importance of being present with others by removing social media as a distraction while she lives through the loss of her daughter, Daisy.
LEGACY
In part 3 of Relentless Hope, Kate shares that by focusing on Jesus, we can create a meaningful legacy that impacts people profoundly and changes many lives.
Scripture to reflect on:
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
– Numbers 6:24-26
Closing prayer for Kate’s story:
Dear Lord, sometimes it’s hard to see the good things in my life. Some moments seem so dark and troubled that it’s challenging to see Your light. Still, I trust that you are with me and always blessing me. Please help me understand how You want to work in me and trust in your plan for my life. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus' Name, amen.
