You have been waiting for something dramatic to confirm that God is near. He has mostly been speaking under the noise you have not turned off.
Take five silent minutes with no input at all.
Ask one question and then stop talking.
Wait longer than is comfortable.
INSPIRATIONAL STORY
God Is Usually Quiet
Elijah just called fire out of the sky.
Four hundred and fifty prophets on Mount Carmel, water poured over the altar, and the whole thing went up.
The largest miracle of his career.
Nine verses later he is under a tree in the desert asking God to let him die.
That is not a typo, and it should comfort you.
The crash after the mountaintop is a real thing, and it happened to a prophet.
God feeds him. Lets him sleep. Feeds him again. Then puts him in a cave and tells him to stand on the mountain.
Here comes the wind. Rocks tearing loose. A sound like the world coming apart.
God is not in the wind.
Then an earthquake. Then fire.
God is not in either one.
Then a low whisper.
The man who watched fire fall on Carmel meets God in a voice he had to hold still to hear.
Think about what that means for your Tuesday.
No burning bush at your desk. No sky opening over the carpool line.
A low voice under a very loud life, saying your name.
The most decisive moment in history was a baby born at night in a feed trough, and almost nobody on earth noticed.
Here’s your focus for today:
Build the Gap: Take five minutes today with no screen, no music, and no input.
Ask and Stop: Ask God one real question, then be quiet instead of filling the space.
Wait Past Awkward: Stay in the silence longer than feels natural before you move on.
Anchor your day in this truth: “After the fire came a gentle whisper.” (1 Kings 19:12)
He is not far.
He is quiet.
Turn something off.
