Experiencing Peace After My Father’s Murder
with Dr. Jack Graham, Senior Pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church
From Grief to Peace
Few things in life are as devastating as losing someone we love. It’s a pain that can be all-consuming, making us feel paralyzed and hopeless. However, when we trust God and fully embrace Jesus’ love, we can weather the fierce storms of life.
In this episode of Relentless Hope, Dr. Jack Graham shares his experience of relying on God’s strength during his darkest hours when his father was tragically murdered. Let’s learn how he found peace in the face of deep loss.
Words of Hope:
“God, who foresaw your tribulations, has specially armed you to go through it, not without pain but without stain.”
In part 1 of Relentless Hope, Dr. Graham is vulnerable about his father’s brutal murder when he was still a college student, newly married, and exploring his calling to become a pastor. Despite the traumatic experience, he chose not to let bitterness take root. Instead, he used this period to deepen his trust in God, providing him the strength to heal from grief and anger.
The peace Dr. Graham received through this extreme circumstance shows us we can find restoration through God’s grace and love.
In part 2 of this 3-part series, Dr. Graham highlights the significance of trusting God’s calling for leadership and inspiring others within your community. He believes leadership is rooted in cultivating meaningful relationships and encourages us to embrace our potential. Leading people requires first accepting them where they are, aligning with the greatest commandment of loving God and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
In part 3, Dr. Graham emphasizes the importance of living one’s legacy every day by making a positive impact on the lives of others. The best way to do this is by helping people have a heavenly perspective and grow in their relationship with God. We must have faith in our calling from God, trusting that He will empower us to fulfill it. Each day, we strive to do our best and leave the results to Him because God’s will for us is more powerful than anything imaginable.
Scripture to reflect on:
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
- Isaiah 26:3
Closing prayer for Jack’s story:
Dear Lord, it’s hard to give up complete control. But I know, deep inside, that I have no control. You are in control. Please show me the areas where You’re asking me to let go and completely trust You. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
