Episode 2 with Soul on Fire’s Macy McClain
Actor Macy McClain shares her unexpected call to star in Soul on Fire, and how God used her scars for purpose.
Hi there,
If you missed our last note, Relentless Hope is back with a brand-new season—and a brand-new voice. John O’Leary, whose inspiring story of surviving a childhood fire is now the upcoming film Soul on Fire, is guest-hosting each week.
Together, we’re bringing you behind-the-scenes conversations with the cast and crew leading up to the film’s release. This week, actress Macy McClain—who plays John’s wife, Beth—shares how God used an unexpected call to lead her to this role and how our scars can become part of God’s purpose.
An Audition She Never Expected
Macy McClain didn’t audition for Soul on Fire. She got a call out of nowhere: “You’re our top choice to play Beth O’Leary.”
She was in another dry season—the kind actors know too well. Then this role found her.
In this week’s episode, Macy shares:
Her “Gideon moment” with a Papa John’s casting director
Playing Columbine victim Rachel Scott and feeling God’s tangible presence on set
Why the dorm room scene captures the film’s heart: choosing someone, scars and all
Meeting her husband through sunflowers (and a mortifying kitchen incident)
The takeaway: “I want people to know they were created for a purpose, scars and all. Those are the very things God uses to set other souls on fire.”
