Embracing Servitude to Live a Meaningful Life
with David Meltzer, award-winning humanitarian and CEO of Sports 1 Marketing
Called to Give, Called to Serve
When we make Jesus the center of our lives, He guides us to become humble and devoted servants. Regardless of our social, economic, or geographic circumstances, we are all called to serve and give in unique ways, using the gifts bestowed upon us to alleviate suffering and promote goodwill.
In this episode of Relentless Hope, David Meltzer shares wisdom on being service-focused. David takes us on his journey of attaining millionaire status in his twenties, securing CEO positions at prominent companies, then facing bankruptcy challenges. Join us to hear his inspiring story of resilience and redemption.
Words of Hope:
“I used to ask God to help me. Then I asked if I might help Him. I ended up asking God to do His work through me.”
- Hudson Taylor
LIFE
In part 1 of this 3-part series, David shares his epiphany about living a purposeful, passionate, and profitable life to serve others. He recounts the transformational journey of cultivating gratitude for what he’s been blessed with, adding value to those blessings, then wholeheartedly giving back.
Lesson from LIFE: Every morning, begin your day by seeking God’s guidance and asking for opportunities to impact the lives of others positively.
LEADERSHIP
In the next part, David teaches us to be servant leaders. According to him, leaders should ask themselves two crucial questions: “Who can I serve?” and “Who can help me?” These questions emphasize that leadership is a collaborative partnership. As leaders, we are responsible for inspiring others, but we must also seek inspiration ourselves—and this stems from cultivating a deep connection with God.
Lesson from LEADERSHIP: Believe you are worthy of help from others and God. Embrace the truth that God desires you to achieve your dreams, so never hesitate to seek the resources you need.
LEGACY
In part 3, David shares that leaving a legacy starts now. It’s how we choose to live, serve, and inspire today.
David candidly reveals his past as a manipulator, admitting to overselling and occasionally deceiving. This way of life resulted in him losing everything—including homes, boats, cars, and even the house he purchased for his mother.
Our impact goes beyond achievements. It includes how we respond to our mistakes and hypocrisy. As humans, we have failures, but our willingness to admit flaws also creates legacies.
Lesson from LEGACY: Consider sharing your past failures and sins for the benefit of others. We learn from each other and can find blessings from our losses and ignorance.
Scripture to reflect on:
“But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”
- Matthew 23:11
Closing prayer for David’s story:
Gracious Heavenly Father, we humbly seek Your guidance and wisdom. Help us become vessels of Your love and grace, serving one another with sincere hearts. Teach us to let go of worldly desires and embrace values of gratitude, empathy, and forgiveness. Help us to be instruments of inspiration and service, bringing joy to those around us. May we live with passion, purpose, and a heart overflowing with Your blessings. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’s Name, amen.
What we’ve done wrong in our past holds no significance. What truly matters is the present moment, consciously aligning ourselves with Jesus, embracing sacrifice, and listening to others. By doing so, we unlock the potential to live inspired lives, empowering us to serve and contribute to the greater good.
