DAILY VITAMIN
The table is the last room where a family is actually a family.
Nothing attacked your dinner table. It got taken apart by practice schedules and good opportunities, one worthy thing at a time.
Set a time and defend it like an appointment.
Kill every screen at the table, including yours.
Ask one question that has nothing to do with logistics.
INSPIRATIONAL STORY
Defend the Table
Count the nights this week that every person in your house ate the same meal in the same room at the same time.
For most families the honest number is one. Sometimes zero.
There was no obvious attack against the table. It was dismantled by good things. Travel basketball. A second shift. A tutor. A worthy, defensible, carefully chosen thing in every slot.
You didn’t lose the table in a fight. You gave it away in pieces, and every piece seemed reasonable.
Luke describes the earliest Christians in one sentence we usually read as spiritual and skip as practical.
“They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.”
Every day. In houses. With food.
That is how the most explosive movement in human history ran its formation program. People around a table, eating, daily.
There is something a table does that no other room reproduces.
You are at eye level. Your hands are busy, so talking comes more easily. Nobody can leave without it being noticed.
It is the one hour when a family has to be a unit rather than a set of schedules.
So defend it. Pick the nights and treat them like appointments that cannot be moved. Kill the screens, yours first, because yours is the one giving everyone else permission.
When Jesus wanted to leave His people something that would hold them together for two thousand years, He gave them a meal and told them to keep eating it.
Here’s your focus for today:
Set the Time: Pick the nights and put them on the calendar as unmovable.
Kill the Screens: Every phone off the table, starting with yours.
Ask One Real Question: Ask something that has nothing to do with schedules or homework.
Anchor your day in this truth: “They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.” (Acts 2:46)
The table is still in the room.
It just needs somebody to defend it.
Sit down tonight.
